Produced from a microorganism found in the clay of Spain’s Aiguamolls de l’Emporda natural park, Uniclay biotech ingredient [1] was launched in 2019 as a skin-beautifier. In 2022, Lubrizol Life Science Beauty (LLS Beauty) also tested its benefits on self-esteem and well-being.
Benefits for acne-prone skin
Lubrizol recently unveiled the results of a clinical study that expands the scope of interest of the natural ingredient to the facial cleansing segment.
The placebo-controlled, double-blind study has shown that a facial cleanser containing Uniclay biotech ingredient improved the skin appearance of women and men with acne-prone skin after just one week. “Notably, there was a marked reduction in red spots and irregular texture, with lasting effects observed even after participants stopped using the product,” said the company.
Lubrizol added that further results from the study revealed the ability of Uniclay biotech ingredient to effectively reduce facial pore size, smooth rough skin texture, and minimize oiliness, while enhancing the skin’s barrier function—essential for maintaining overall skin health.
Skin cleansing formulations
Considering the wide array of available data on the purifying and regenerative properties of Uniclay biotech ingredient, LLS Beauty considers it has the potential to transform the facial cleansing segment.
To illustrate this, the company has developed a variety of rinse-off formulations including active ingredients to clean the face while taking care of the skin. The first sample formulations contain ingredients like Uniclay biotech ingredient, as well as Xpozuki biotech ingredient, Lipochroman molecule and Actizyme advanced botanical ingredient.
Uniclay biotech ingredient has thus been formulated in a high-performance facial cleanser (CL-F0113A EU) that reduces redness and pore size and mattifies the skin without sacrificing formulation foaming benefits.
LLS Beauty also used Uniclay biotech ingredient to formulate a clay-like Mask Facial Wash (CL-F0120) that leaves the face clean but also helps reduce skin imperfections.
