The growing demand for eco-friendly products

Sustainability has transitioned from a trend to a core expectation in the beauty sector. According to Nielsen, 66% of consumers are willing to pay more for products that are environmentally friendly. This shift has prompted brands to adopt practices such as recyclable packaging and natural ingredients.

In a significant step towards this goal, we are thrilled to announce our recent partnership with HSBC to complete the Sustainability Improvement Loan as their first participating client in the Asia Pacific region that will track our performance in sustainability aspects based on our scores on EcoVadis platform. This initiative exemplifies and funds our dedication to innovative practices that not only benefit our customers but also contribute to the health of our planet,” says Karsten Ng, the Vice Chairman of Opal Cosmetics Group.

Responsible packaging solutions

One of the most visible aspects of Opal Cosmetics Group’s sustainability journey is their commitment to responsible packaging. With the international presence on the personal care and beauty products, Opal Cosmetics Group has transitioned to recyclable and biodegradable packaging materials, eliminating single-use plastics from the packaging wherever possible.

Christina Zheng, Merchandising Director of Opal International Trading, a subsidiary of Opal Cosmetics Group, shares that “We started to explore sustainable packaging 8 years ago when there were just very few other cosmetics companies in the market looking for sustainable packaging. Throughout the years, we have been in collaborations with different packaging manufacturers and lab experts to explore cutting-edge materials that align with our sustainability goals. Our commitment to use sustainable packaging not only enhances our client’s experience but also reflects our awareness of the environmental issues.”

The importance of transparency in clean beauty

Today’s consumers are savvy and demand transparency regarding product formulations. Brands that prioritise transparency not only build trust but also engage consumers in a meaningful way.

Karsten Ng adds “We do see more and more cosmetics products showing their natural ingredients and functions clearly on the labels recently. This reflects the consumers’ preference and demands for transparency. In recent years, we put more focus on developing natural ingredients that can bring effective functions to our personal care and beauty product formulations with different universities and labs around the globe. We also prioritise transparency by guaranteeing that our products adhere to the high standards of safety, efficacy and sustainability.”

As the beauty industry evolves, brands must embrace sustainability and transparency to meet the demands of today’s consumers. Opal Cosmetics Group has been putting endevour to this journey, continually delivering innovative personal care and beauty products while positively impacting the planet. Together, we are shaping a sustainable future for the beauty industry.
