Brazil’s beauty giant Natura has partnered with Nestlé to recycle the aluminum from used Nespresso coffee capsules into packaging for its Ekos Castanha hand moisturizers, the best-selling product of Natura Ekos brand.
The first batches will be available in Natura stores in Brazil from October 28, on the occasion of Brazil’s "National Aluminum Recycling Day".
More than two tons of capsules per year
The Ekos Castanha hand care tubes are made from 100% recycled aluminum, 10% of which comes from Nespresso capsules, which corresponds to the reuse of more than two tons of capsules per year.
According to Mariana Marcussi, Marketing Director at Nespresso Brasil, the brand’s capsules are already made from 80% recycled aluminum. The partnership with Natura Ekos thus strengthens the circularity of aluminum to create "an even more environmentally and community-friendly sector".
Recycling cosmetic packaging
In addition to using recycled capsules in packaging, the partnership between the two companies also includes the possibility for Natura clients to bring back empty Natura Ekos aluminum tubes into the one of the 34 Nespresso boutiques across Brazil to ensure they will be correctly disposed of.
"We are also working to ensure that the more than 400 Nespresso collection points in the country have the capacity to receive and give a second life to products from both brands,” said Mariana Marcussi.
The collected tubes and capsules will be sent to the Nespresso recycling center in the city of Osasco, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
